ABOUT ME

Karen Coats is a professor of English who specializes in children's and young adult literature. She's interested in how young people process the stories, poetry, books and films they read and view, and how that processing becomes part of who they are. She reads a lot, and then she writes theoretical articles and book chapters about identity, emotions, psychoanalytic theory, cognitive poetics, and multiliteracies in poetry, picturebooks, and prose for young people. She has also written a book that introduces all of those things and more for people new to the study of children's and young adult literature, called The Bloomsbury Introduction to Children's and Young Adult Literature.
